What this site is
An independent campaign site published by J Graham, a private resident of San Antonio, Texas. It argues a position about a proposal to open CPS Energy to retail electricity competition, and it publishes the data behind that argument so the argument can be checked.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for CPS Energy, the City of San Antonio, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, ERCOT, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Texas Ethics Commission, any electricity retailer, or any political party, candidate, campaign or committee. Where those organisations’ names, data or documents appear, it is because they are the source being cited.
The figures are estimates, not quotes
This is the part that matters most, so it has its own page. In short: the comparison tool models bills from published tariffs and the state’s own offer export. It is not a price quote, not an offer, and not a substitute for reading an Electricity Facts Label before you sign anything. Rates change constantly and the tool works from a periodic snapshot.
No advice
Nothing here is legal, financial, tax, investment or professional advice. It is public-interest analysis. Decisions about your electricity supply, your money or your vote are yours, and you should verify anything here that you intend to act on.
Using the material
You are welcome — encouraged — to quote, screenshot, print and share what is on this site, including the charts and figures, for any non-commercial purpose. Please link back so people can see the sources and any subsequent corrections. If a figure has been corrected since you copied it, the version on the site is the one that stands.
The underlying government data is public and belongs to nobody. The site’s writing, layout, code and diagrams are the author’s. Do not present the material as your own work, and do not use it to imply that this site endorses you, your organisation or your candidacy.
The Ko-fi name and logo belong to Ko-fi. Other company names and marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the companies being discussed.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to break into, overload, scrape aggressively, or interfere with the site or its API; do not submit anything unlawful, threatening or deliberately false through the forms; and do not use the mailing list or contact form to send bulk or commercial messages.
Links to other sites
This site links out constantly, because citing sources is the point. Those sites are not under our control, and linking to one is not an endorsement of everything on it.
No warranty, and the limit of our liability
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.
To the fullest extent Texas law allows, the site’s owner is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from a decision you made in reliance on information here — including a decision about which electricity plan to buy. If a court finds liability regardless, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use this site, which is nothing, or one hundred US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case only the exclusions that are permitted apply to you.
Corrections come before disclaimers
A disclaimer is not a licence to be wrong. If a figure here is incorrect, tell us and it gets checked and corrected, and the correction is noted. That is a commitment, not a legal term.
Changes and contact
These terms may change; the date at the top will change with them, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version. Texas law governs, and the courts of Bexar County, Texas are the venue for any dispute.
